Winter Wedding Venues in Hertfordshire
Days are short the air is cold and crisp and there is no more romantic time of year than winter to cosy up to your beloved to say “I do”.
I really like winter weddings, have I mentioned that before? Probably, but that’s okay because they are very special and unquestionably a Pike Photography speciality.
Out of winter weddings come the most dramatic, colourful and romantic photographs. But, you have to be prepared to shoot in these unique conditions. Photography is about capturing light, and there is a lot less light in winter. With this in mind, if you are planning a winter wedding ensure that you do two things:
Visit your venue after dark. The atmosphere will be very different when the sun goes down so be sure that it works for you.
Ask your photographer to show you examples of winter weddings they have covered. Be sure that they have the skills to make the most of winter’s beautiful but challenging conditions.
One of the main reasons that you might be considering a winter wedding is for it’s gorgeous seasonal atmosphere. Be it a big festive Christmassy celebration or a cosy do with firepits and a sparkler send-off, winter weddings have romantic atmosphere in spades.
Hertfordshire has tons of venue options for winter weddings. Here is a select few of my faves:
Vanstone Park - Country Tipis
You could be forgiven for thinking that tipi weddings are confided to glorious high summer days full of festival vibes.
But wait, have you seen a tipi venue after dark? Festoon bulb strings, fairy lights and firepits light up the night in the most photogenic of ways. Country Tipis are tipi wedding specialists and should be your first port of call for all things tipi!
The atmosphere is as merry as can be when you dance the night away surrounded by friends and loved ones in a heated tipi. Just be sure to pop outside for some epic photos beneath the stars.
Hotel Cromwell
Hotel Cromwell in Stevenage, is a perfect venue for a winter wedding. Vintage features, open fireplaces, and wood panelled rooms all add to those cosy winter vibes.
The hotel is a beautiful 16th Century building, making it a unique venue for a wedding. It is so named because it was once the home of John Thurloe, secretary and master spy to Oliver Cromwell himself. Olde worlde features and compact but pretty outdoor spaces make this one of my favourite places at which to photograph weddings, especially in the winter.

Tewin Bury Farm Hotel
If you are looking to have a rustic barn wedding in Hertfordshire you’d be hard pressed to find a better option than Tewin Bury Farm Hotel. It’s picturesque setting right on the River Mimram is home to a selection of converted barns and stables catering for all sizes of weddings.
