South Farm Wedding Photographer – Kate and Will’s Day

This Hertfordshire wedding day was absolutely bursting at the seams with colour and laughter! Featuring an outdoor ceremony bathed in sunshine, a riotous reception in a beautiful rustic barn and the loudest roars of laughter I have ever heard result from speeches. This wedding at South Farm was one to remember! Here is the story of Kate and Will’s AMAZING day.

I arrived at South Farm early and met up with Jack (capturedbyjack.com) who was working alongside me for the day shooting video. Jack and I frequently team up to provide joint wedding photo and video coverage. He is a super lovely and super talented guy and we love working together. This affords couples the benefit of hiring an established (and awesome) team! Learn more about our joint wedding photo and video package.

Jack and I found beautiful bride Kate having her hair done in her suite, whilst bridesmaids were busy adding the final touches of decoration inside the venue and outside where the ceremony would later take place. We popped to the upstairs area of the room and made sure to get some nice shots of the dresses which had been hung on the rafters.

Will and the boys were in another room slowly getting dressed and already revelling in every moment of the morning. Roars of laughter being the soundtrack of the day. Between the rooms shirts were ironed, flowers delivered, lippy applied and bubbles poured. It was all go! Before we knew it, guests were taking their seats and it was almost time for Kate and Will to say “I do”.

Vibrant and Colourful Wedding Photography

Kate looked amazing wearing a Madi Lane “Season” gown. This fit-and-flare, strapless dress featured a white base with intricate colourful floral and foliage appliques, and a deep sweetheart neckline. Kate wanted her wedding day to be filled with bright and beautiful colour. As such, gorgeous bold and bright summer colours were woven throughout the floristry, outfits and décor, and it was all a treat to photograph. The bride’s flower crown in particular being a show stopping addition.

With her final touches of preparation completed by her mum, Kate had an emotional first look moment with her dad and her sisters. Then it was time for me and Jack to catch up with groom Will at the top of the aisle. The wedding ceremony was about to begin!

We snapped up some candid moments of the guests mingling in the gardens before it was time for them all to take their seats. Taking his position atop the aisle Will looked the part in a light grey three-piece suit. His maroon tie complimenting the floral detail on Kate’s dress and bright yellow boutonniere tying in their summery theme.

Following her bridesmaids, Kate took to the aisle across the lawn arm in arm with her very proud dad. She met Will by the pond where the two of them then made their way around it and into the Summer House to make their vows.

The ceremony was heartfelt, romantic, and as all of the day was, filled with laughter. Memorably, Will quietly joked with and reassured Kate throughout the service. Apparently, completely unaware that the summer house is mic’d up to enable all of the guests to hear everything!

With rings exchanged and vows made it was time to throw the confetti. Couples getting married at South Farm nearly always choose to do this in front of the iconic yellow farm house. This is exactly what Kate and Will opted for leading to some fab photos and video footage. Then, whilst canapés and drinks were served on the lawn I went about taking photos of the bridal party and the couple’s closest family and friends. As you can no doubt tell from the pictures, this was an absolute blast!

Hertfordshire Wedding Photography and Videography Team

South Farm in Hertfordshire is a wedding photographer’s dream. It is a place where you are truly spoilt for choice with so many beautiful backdrops. Whilst the drinks reception was in full swing the couple snuck away with me and Jack for a short photo-session. It was so much fun, Kate and Will taking in the day and enjoying a quiet moment together whist we snapped away in the distant background. We didn’t keep them for a moment longer than necessary. We got them straight back into their drinks reception to enjoy a bit more sunshine with loved ones before the next part of the day. We’d make use of some other areas of the venue for another quick couples shoot later in the evening.

Following a scrummy BBQ dinner the stage was set for the speeches. Hilarious, heartfelt and humbling. The speeches were a joy to witness. Jack and I worked the room, silently capturing every moment. Nerves, tears, knowing smiles, and of course, raucous laughter. This is why speeches are often my favourite part of the day.

Once Will had been located (having snuck out to smoke a cigar with his groomsmen) the couple cut their cake and hit the dance floor. Their live band kept the dancing going all night and we made sure to capture plenty of epic moments!
